2006 Alfa Romeo Brera Car Review

Overall Rating 4 Stars
Description
Started life as a flashy concept car designed by Giugiaro's Brera, it was so well received it had to be produced. Sharp edged with a point nose and glass roof the stylish Brera is a big contendor.

Road Test
Designed on the 159 the Brera remains very close to the concept version un-veiled in 2002 with sharp edges and point nose giving it a stylish look required by a super car. Well built and solid it features quadruple exhaust pipes and glass roof with three over-lapping section electric sunblind, triple light unit at the front with frameless doors the Brera sets itself apart from it?s competitors. Inside the seating is lower than the 159. The dashboard is slightly over bearing with big main dials set in circles. The view to the front and side is fine, but the thick rear pillar obscures the rear and angles. Driving position is good with adjustable seats and steering wheel. Steering has plenty of weight and the Brera holds the road excellently with plenty of agility. The V6 Q4 version lifts everything to a higher level with its fantastic deep and menacing sound from the six-cylinder engine. The Brera is meant to be driven hard and the harder the better when it comes into its own. The six-speed transmissions have easy gearshifts. The brakes are powerful and progressive in their action with the V6 having bigger brakes made by Brembo. Safety is taken into account with seven airbags as standard and a passenger knee bag optional. Stability control, Alfa Romeo calls it VDC rather than ESP is standard. Never thought of a Brera, give one a test drive and you too could be a convert.
Positive Points
  • Stylish concept to road car
  • Excellent handling
  • Powerful engines especially V6
Negative Points
  • Obscured views from certain angles
  • Takes a few miles to get into it's stride
