- Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible 1971 on full UK plates 351Ci Cleveland engine (5800cc) 72,000 miles Sunburst Gold with Ginger Vinyl Interior A rare early 70’s Convertible Muscle Car! This Mercury Cougar XR-7 was built in 1971 and imported into the UK when it was just 2 years old. It has the famous 351 cubic inch ’’Cleveland’’ engine (also used in many other Fords and even De Tomaso’s!) with a 3 speed automatic gearbox It also has Power Steering, a Power Hood and Power Disc Brakes and even its original working 8 Track player! Finished in Sunburst Gold (resprayed about 8 years ago) with a Ginger Vinyl Interior the car is in very good overall condition for a 40 year old! Its not perfect but looks good, is utterly reliable and great fun! It has plenty of power with the big V8 but also pretty good on fuel... well... for a 5.8 litre V8 that is! Perfect for cruising and classic car clubs but get used to people wanting to ask you all about the car! The Mercury has recently had a major service, new shock absorbers, new brakes and complete dual exhaust system and comes with a spare service kit. Spare parts are cheap and easy to locate as basically the Mercury Cougar is a Ford Mustang under the skin and most parts are interchangeable, even the hood!
