Karting Champion Drives 1000 KM on Nürburgring Nordschleife

24 Mar 2009

Karting champion tests Aston Martin in Belgium and prepares for upcoming race.

San Diego, CA (Vocus) March 24, 2009 -- Marco Ferrera, the two-time Brazilian Karting champion is at it again as he prepares for an upcoming race on April 4 -5, 2009.

The weekend will bring a close to the 2008 Summer Series, and begin the 2009 Spring Championship Series at Homestead Karting. Marco Ferrera is the leader in the TAG Senior Division where this single race weekend’s points will count towards his Race 6 of the 2008 Summer Championship and his Race 1 of the 2009 Spring Championship Series.

Ferrera recently raced at the grand opening of Palm Beach International Raceway, following a total track renovation. The new track recently completed its’ all-new road course with an all-concrete drag strip and all-new karting center. Ferrera won the TAG Senior Class with over 15 competitors racing the track.

Ferrera owes his strength on the track to his experience racing on the Aston Martin team in Belgium. In 2008, Ferrera crossed from Belgium to Nürburg, Germany to support Hexis Racing Team at the ADAC 1000 km Nürburgring. Organized by ADAC since 1953, the race was competed on the Formula 1 Circuit between August 15-17, 2008. The Team Hexis concept was established in 2001 and the team first competed on 2002 season.

The Hexis team obtained a pole position and place on the podium at its first participation in a Formula Renault race, 2 victories in 2003, 3rd place in the French Formula Renault team championship, and debuts in Grand Tourism in the Porsche 996 Cup in 2005.

After the Hexis race, Marco Ferrera stayed another week in Germany before returning to the States and drove 1000 kilometers at the traditional 24 kilometers Nürburgring Nordschleife ("Northern Loop"). This drive was in preparation for the upcoming 2009 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

Unlike many professional drivers, Ferrera wasn’t born into a family of racers. Instead his passion began as a child and carried throughout his long and successful career of championships. A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Marco Ferrera is a Brazilian Formula Ford Champion and winner of the Series Championship with four victories. Ferrera has made a significant place for himself in the world of racing as one of the top new pro drivers in Pro Racing and has captured numerous titles as a KART, Formula Mazda and SCCA GT-2 Driver.
