MPG Cannot be the Only Measurement when Considering New Car Prices for Hybrid Vehicles

28 Aug 2009

With more hybrid electric vehicles hitting the streets, the gasoline-based measurement cannot be the only determining factor when considering new car prices. NewCarPrices.net offers consumers a way to research the new cars prices.

Chicago, IL (Vocus) August 28, 2009 -– The long standing vehicle efficiency meter, MPG, is less valid with more hybrid electric vehicles being released. There are two primary concerns that can affect consumers’ wallets and should be considered when they are looking at new car prices. NewCarPrices.net offers consumers a way to research the new cars prices.

One problem is that hybrid vehicles mileage variation is extreme, depending on the fuel source that is used. The other is that the Environmental Protection Agency has not finalized any rules on how it will measure fuel economy on vehicles that can be plugged in to an electrical outlet. Until these factors are sorted out, the claims of the manufactures will not be fully verifiable or comparable for consumers.

When comparing new cars prices, consumers will find that the greater the MPG, the more expensive the vehicle. The electric hybrids will receive about 230 to 365 MPG and are priced in the $30,000 to $40,000 range. As where hybrid and gasoline engines will receive about 20 to 50 MPG and will cost $20 to $29,000. For a specific new cars price, consumers can use NewCarPrices.net.

For instance, the Nissan Leaf with an electric motor has an estimated MPG of 367 and will cost between $25,000 and $30,000. The Chevrolet Volt, a plug-in hybrid electric-gasoline engine, has an estimated MPG of 230 MPG and will cost $35,000 to $40,000. As where the Toyota Prius, a hybrid engine, receives 51 MPG and is priced at $22,000 to 27,000. Along with the Honda Accord, a gasoline engine, that receives 21 MPG and is priced at $21,000 to $29,000.
