Larson Electronics Magnalight adds a two foot version of its saltwater resistant Class 1 Division 2 hazardous location area light. This enables operators in smaller areas subject to intermittent, low concentrations of flammable vapors to meet OSHA regulations and provide general area illumination.
(Vocus) September 29, 2009 -- For space constrained fluorescent lighting requirements in hazardous location areas, Larson Electronics Magnalight announced the addition of the HALP-48-2L. Carrying a UL 844 safety rating of Class 1 Division 2, the two long fluorescent light features a glass fiber reinforced polyester housing, poured in gasket and high impact acrylic diffuser. While not as vibration resistant as its aluminum cousins, like the Class 1 Division 2 HAL-48-2L aluminum housing light, this hazardous location area light fixture is designed to withstand weather and saltwater conditions that will corrode aluminum based fixtures. Simple surface mount brackets enable easy installation to walls or ceiling, while a ½ inch threaded NPT enables conduit access and wiring connectivity. Priced under $300, this lightweight, corrosion proof hazardous location area light is suitable for areas where the presence of flammable petrochemical vapors are limited or intermittent, in areas often adjacent to locations where the concentration and continuous presence of these vapors requires explosion proof lighting.
“This is an economical solution that offers saltwater resistance for smaller areas where OSHA requires UL Class 1 Division 2 lighting,” said Rob Bresnahan with Larson Electronics. “Our four foot version of this hazardous location light is very popular, but we have had requests for a smaller fixture for tighter areas. So we are looking at the whole line and determining where we can offer a two foot version. We did this recently with our explosion proof fluorescent light by introducing the EPL-24-2L, for areas requiring UL 844 Class 1 Division 1 lighting. While the smaller factor doesn’t garner much in the way of savings over the 4 foot versions, customers needing smaller fixtures now have some options. We ship all of our explosion proof and hazardous location area lights with the bulbs installed and we offer this fixture with a choice of T5HO, T12HO or T8 fluorescent tube.”
