Porsche 928 - - 1988 Porsche 928S4, A collector's daily driver. Garaged when not driven. Professional mechanical restoration in 2006 at 98K miles. The restoration completed in '06 was done by a former member of the Porsche racing team in the late "70s to mid '80s. During the extensive process, undertaken to improve the overall performance of the vehicle, he went through the whole car drivetrain and handling systems. He replaced all worn bushings, struts, bearings, rotors, pads, belts, hoses, power steering unit, electrical harness, timing belt, front engine seal, and re-bearinged the generator. We replaced the catalytic converters with test tubes, disconnected the air pump, and re-plumbed the exhaust. He added a heat shield to the tranny/transaxle. The engine and tranny/transaxle were then tested and were up to 97% of new cylinder compression +"- 1%. We also installed an aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure controller to improve performance and gas economy (I'm getting 18-19 mpg average with highway mileage even better).
