Sell A Car, Selling a car |
You've decided to sell a car. Remember as you begin the process of selling a car, you are going to get out what you put in. Some of that is what you put in while you owned the car. But you can still make a difference in the price you get when you sell your car now. Here are a few tips that will help you as you begin to sell your car.
Know your competition
When the time comes for you to sell a car it is probably not something you have done recently. You will need to do some research on your competition. What is your car worth? What are cars similar to yours selling for? You can find this information by looking at classified ads and on the internet. If you've taken that step to sell a car, there is nothing wrong with actually contacting someone selling a car similar to yours. Go test drive it. Watch the classifieds; how long did they have to wait to sell their car.
Make sure the price is right
Put the information you got about your competition to use. This will make you better informed about setting your price. You want to be competitive with people trying to sell a car similar to yours. You can also check resources like The Kelly Blue book, auto trader, and the internet. Remember that you want a price low enough that you can sell a car. But you don't want to go so low that you have no room for negotiation. Buyers always expect to be able to haggle a little with the person trying to sell a car.
Make your car it's own display model
Professional car dealers always put the best model out front when they sell a car. You should put the best version of your car in front of the buyer as well. Wash, wax, and detail the car. You aren't going to make it new again. But you certainly can make it better than the car they might have just come from. Take care of the obvious things; clean out your car and vacuum the interior. But also get the little things; wipe down the a/c vents, take care of the dust under the steering column. Another small detail is the trunk. Make sure it is as empty and vacuumed as well. This makes the space look as large as possible.
Advertise"ŠEverywhere
Often times people trying to sell a car will place one ad. If you want to sell a car why not get it in front of as many people as possible. There are numerous options available. Newspaper classifieds are a good one but usually charge by the week. If you are not asking a price that will encourage a quick sale, the cost of the ads can add up quickly. Online advertisers often charge a one time fee to sell a car. You can also sell a car in local editions of Auto Trader. There really shouldn't be anywhere that you aren't willing to advertise. One of the best ways to sell a car is to tell friends and coworkers. People are often willing to buy a car from someone they know. |
