Sell My Car, Selling my Car Part III |
Now that you have established all the prep work of whether your car should be sold, to sell it privately or through a dealer, how much to charge and how to advertise that you are selling your car, there is one more important question you need to ask yourself; "How do I sell my car to a buyer without lowering my asking price?" Well you may have to lower your asking price but you should not have to lower it to your bottom line acceptance price.
Let's remember, when the time comes for negotiating, you should set your price much higher than your bottom line price. You do not want to set it $20,000 over the limit but a good amount so that you know if someone contacts you that they can spend somewhere near the amount that you are asking for. They would not have called if they did not fin it reasonable. When you negotiate, you can come to the price that you feel comfortable selling your car at. If the offer is a few hundred lower than you expected you can hold out, but you probably should not since you are at least getting close to your final offer and you may not find someone else willing to pay that price. Plus if you are spending more on advertising you are going to end up losing more money than gaining.
So is you are thinking "how do I sell my car without lowering the price too much" , here is the answer. If you have a good car worthy of selling show the potential buyer the proof that it is. Just because you are selling your car and it is used, does not mean that it is a lemon. Show them the maintenance record to demonstrate that the car has been taken car of under your use and that you have changed the oil every three months since you got the car. If you bought new parts for the car, show them the receipts to say there are brand new tires, a new battery and windshield wipers so that the customer does not have to worry about those. Then you should mention all the customs that come with your car such as a sun roof, heated seats, and an expanding trunk size as selling points. If you have any freebies (a little more classy than an air refresher) such as spare tires, mention that. You can also show them the used car history report which should close the deal on the spot. If it does not put a little pressure on the potential buyer and mention that there are others here to see your car. If the buyer thinks he is the only one, he might dangle you on a string for a little bit and still not end up purchasing your car.
So if you are thinking "I want to sell my car" you have definitely learned the steps to do so in this three part article. Everything from whether or not your car is sellable to how much to charge, where to sell it, how to prepare your car for sale, where to advertise it and how to get you the price you are looking for. You should have no doubt as to whether "will I sell me car?" |
