The Volkswagen Golf car has undergone various changes and released various models (at least five) since its creation. It is truly a revolutionary car. The Volkswagen Golf car also known as the Volkswagen Rabbit has a few key facts that any Volkswagen car aficionado should be kept up to date on. The Volkswagen Golf car is manufactured by the Volkswagen Group Karmann and started production in 1974. This production has continued for more than thirty years and is presently being produced. The predecessor to the Volkswagen Golf is the famous Volkswagen Beetle. The Volkswagen Golf car was normally classified as a small and compact family car from 1974 to 1984 and has been upgraded due to growing family and practical sizes to a subcompact car from 1985 to the present. The Volkswagen Golf also has a variety of names for which is known b depending on the region of the world. The variety of names were promoted in order to make the Volkswagen Golf car a sellable Volkswagen car globally. In the United States and in Canada the Volkswagen Golf is known as the Volkswagen Rabbit while in Mexico it is known as the Volkswagen Caribe. The Volkswagen Golf with front wheel drive which was acquired when the Volkswagen Group bought the Audi company, replaced the successful Volkswagen Beetle.
The Volkswagen Golf car is highly in demand and has proven so through its statistics. It is the world's third best selling model and it is the Volkswagen Group's top selling model. There have been more than 25 million Volkswagen Golfs built up until the year 2007. Within these 25 million that were built there have been a variety of models. The majority were built as 3-door hatchback models but some models were designed with a four or five door hatchback.
The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 car is the first generation of Volkswagen Golf cars. It is still in production in South Africa starting in 2008 and is being modeled under the name the Volkswagen Citi Golf. The Volkswagen Golf MK2 was introduced in August of 1983 and grew in size in the following areas: wheelbase, exterior and interior dimensions. Overall, the design of the car did not have any major appearance adjustments. The third generation of Volkswagen Golf MK3 showed up un August of 1991 and changed in size in its interior and exterior dimensions while the wheelbase remained the same. There were new engines installed as well. The Volkswagen Golf MK4 appeared in 1997 and a variant in 1999. Technological advancements were made but the car remained primarily unchanged. The appearance adjustments occurred in the grille, the bumpers and in the headlights. The Volkswagen Golf MK5 came out in 2003 in Germany and was later released in 2006 to the North American Automobile Market. It was released as the Volkswagen Rabbit to see if it would catch on as it did thirty years ago when it was introduced into the North American market (excluding Mexico). This version is known in Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador as the Bora and in Argentina and Chile as the Vento. It is also made in Mexico rather than in Germany. |
