Volkswagen extends Polo range |

The Volkswagen Polo line-up has been enhanced with the addition of two new models: the Dune and the range-topping GTI.
The Polo Dune features unique styling, and combines the appearance of a 4x4 with the high quality and compact proportions of the Polo. All models have five doors, while the distinctive exterior additions include: 17 'BBS' alloy wheels; unique front and rear bumpers; side and wheel-arch protection; silver coloured roof rails; and suspension raised by 20 mm.
Available to order February 2006 and officially on sale in the UK on 14 April, the Polo Dune will cost £12,645 on the road for the 1.4-litre 75 PS petrol unit. A 1.4-litre TDI 70 PS diesel is also available, carrying a £850 premium over its petrol counterpart.
The other exciting addition to the Polo range is the GTI model, which will also be open to ordering in February with a market entry date of 12 May.
Available in both three and five door guise, the Polo GTI will be equipped with the proven 1.8-litre 20 valve turbocharged engine. In the new GTI it will develop 150 PS and 220 Nm of torque, making for the most powerful production Polo ever. The GTI will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 134 mph.
Style-wise, the Polo GTI takes cues from its 'big brother' Golf GTI and features a honeycomb front grille; twin chrome tail pipes; red brake callipers; 15 mm lower suspension; and 16 inch versions of the GTI alloy wheel. Prices for the Polo GTI start at £14,785 on the road for the three-door model.
Both the Dune and GTI feature a high level of standard equipment including: ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist); driver's and front passenger's airbags; and front side airbags. Other items include Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning, remote central locking with alarm, electric windows and mirrors and a radio/CD player. In addition the Polo GTI gains ESP, Volkswagen's Electronic Stabilisation Programme. |
