2011 Infiniti QX56 Review
You could say the Infiniti QX56 has a nationality crisis. At first it was a Japanese citizen
with a Japanese passport, back when it was the QX and a clone of the Nissan Pathfinder. Then in 2005, Nissan built a factory in Mississippi, and pasted the QX56 nameplate on the plant’s new big bruiser of an SUV, adding some down-home Americana to its image.
That’s all over for 2011. The QX56 has been de-Dixied and is moving back to Japan, while Nissan figures out what to do with its slow-selling cousins, the Nissan Titan pickup and Armada SUV. The trip back home has been a good one, because now this sport-utility vehicle looks and feels more like an Infiniti than ever. Though it’s drawn from another Nissan vehicle (this time, the global-market Patrol), it asserts a brand-building look that’s much less big-box and far more distinctive than ever before.
It feels way more sophisticated this time around, if you can really use “way” in that sense. There’s a discernible Infiniti umami to be tasted here, a fifth sense missing entirely from the old QX. We’re smitten by the throbbing V-8 that the QX56 shares with the M56 sedan, as well as the plush leather-lined interior and the hardcore off-road hardware—even if we’re not quite as taken with the massive, unsportsmanlike front end, or the dainty steering feel.
Since it sits at the low end of the luxury-ute range, we’re even willing to look at the 2011 QX56 base price of $56,700 for the two-wheel-drive model as a relative bargain. It’s $59,800 for the four-wheel drive model; both are barely a leap over the outgoing 2010s, despite having more horsepower and standard features. They’re also a good deal less pricey than most any Escalade or Mercedes-Benz GL-Class you might test-drive. You can loop one up over $70,000 with add-ons like the $2,850 Technology Package—but even then, you’re still thousands below the average Caddy, Benz, or even the full-boat Range Rover, while still missing the sublime Infiniti ownership/dealership experience.
If you’re fond of football-build brutes and know how much a Nakashima table goes for retail, you’ll adore the QX56. That’s not too narrow a demographic, is it?

2010 Infiniti FX35 Review
In order to compile this comprehensive review covering the 2010 Infiniti FX35 and FX50, the experts at TheCarConnection.com have driven both variants of this performance utility vehicle, then scanned a wide range of reviews for the most useful information for shoppers—especially how the FX stacks up against other vehicles like it.From some angles, the 2010 Infiniti FX might look more like a coupe, and that’s exactly the effect that Infiniti was going for with this curvy crossover vehicle. Unlike other vehicles of this size and relative shape, the FX is geared toward sport-sedan buyers—those who want great overall performance and handling, not off-road ability or an optimized space for changing diapers. The high-utility wagonlike profile is there; it’s just not the priority in this design. With last year’s redesign, the FX became even more coupelike in its profile—in some ways taking a step in the direction BMW forged with its X6, and Acura with its ZDX. Along with the even more aggressive shape and a lower front grille, Infiniti adds quite a few styling details to the exterior—including rippled headlight and taillight designs and metallic ducts just behind the front wheels. Inside, too, although the design of the new Infiniti FX feels warmer and more sophisticated than the previous version, it’s also undeniably more cluttered. The sheer busyness of the design might bother some—with too many curves and cues that are shared with the Nissan Cube MPV—though otherwise it feels rich and elegant. As before, the Infiniti FX can be had as an FX35, with a 303-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6, or as an FX50, with a 390-hp, 5.0-liter V-8. Both offer a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive and get a new seven-speed automatic transmission. For most buyers, the V-6 will be plenty fast, and the engine is still among the sweetest V-6 engines around. The V-8 is even faster, but V-6 version with rear-wheel drive are clearly the best-handling of the bunch, with all-wheel-drive models possessing a different steering feel and V-8s seeming noticeably heavier. And steering feel is about as good as it gets in a utility vehicle of any kind. Fuel economy was slightly improved with the FX’s redesign for ’09, but it’s still embarrassingly low by some city-dwelling standards, at 16 mpg city, 23 highway with the V-6 (down to 14/20 mpg with the V-8).For those who plan to carry much cargo behind the backseats—or even the front ones—the FX still isn’t a great choice. The load floor is high, and the rake of the hatch and back window is somewhat limiting. Backseats also are tough to get into with the arch of the roofline in the way, but once you’re in, there’s just enough space for two adults. The FX has great poise without feeling tanklike, and a ride that’s firm without being at all jarring. And unlike Infiniti’s G and M sport sedans, the FX’s interior doesn’t become much noisier on coarse road surfaces. Materials are like those used in luxury sedans, not SUVs, and there are plenty of delicate details, like the soft leather, with criss-cross stitching, for the sport seats. The 2010 Infiniti FX hasn’t been crash-tested by the federal government, and it likely won’t be, but the insurance-funded IIHS has awarded the FX35 and FX50 scores of "good" for frontal offset and "good" in the seat-based rear-impact test. In addition, it has all the safety features that buyers of this type of vehicle should expect: standard front side airbags, side-curtain bags that protect outboard front and rear passengers, anti-lock brakes, and electronic stability control. There’s not very much of a difference in features between the FX35 and FX50. Aside from bigger, showier wheels for the FX50, they both come as well equipped as any luxury vehicle. Options are limited to big-ticket tech features like a lane-departure warning system, adaptive suspension, and a navigation system with an especially good display and interface.

2010 Infiniti G37 Review
TheCarConnection.com’s editors drove the new Infiniti G37 Coupe - G37 Convertible to bring you this hands-on road test. Editors also compared the Infiniti two-doors to other vehicles, to help you decide which reviews to trust and to help you narrow your choices while shopping. The companion full review compiles quotes and opinions from other trusted Web resources to give you a comprehensive look at the 2010 Infiniti G37 lineup.High Gear Media obtained test vehicles from the manufacturer to write this hands-on road test. The 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe and G37 Convertible share running gear and most of their styling, with only the folding hardtop, more curb weight, and some open-air tweaks separating them. Available with a single engine and a choice of transmissions, the 2010 G37 also is offered as an all-wheel-drive coupe. Changes for 2010 are limited to options like a new navigation system, rain-sensing wipers, and an air purifier. Swift performance and great looks make the G37 a natural competitor for the BMW 3-Series, and with a base price in the $35,000 range, the G37 takes on the new 2010 Audi A5 / Cabriolet lineup, as well as Nissan’s own 2010 370Z coupe and convertible. While both the 2010 G37 Coupe and Convertible are handsome, finely detailed designs, the G37 Convertible is almost better-looking than the Coupe. It has thinner pillars and a little more oomph to its rear end (where the folding hardtop resides), which give it a voluptuousness. It’s by far the best-looking folding-hardtop convertible you can buy, with none of the squatness that affects everything from the Volkswagen Eos to the Ferrari California. The Coupe’s no slouch, either, with a dynamic look that really gains composure over the prior version, thanks to more gracefully drawn-up headlamps and a curved-up hatch. Both the G37 Convertible and Coupe share a dash covered in lovely soft-touch materials and muted leather, which brush up against aluminum or wood trim and frame a clear, wide set of gauges along with the comparatively uninspiring, orange-LCD graphics of the audio system. It shares some major mechanical pieces with the Nissan 370Z, but the four-seat G37 two-doors out-suaves that smaller two-seat roadster outside and inside. The G37 Coupe and Convertible share a powerful engine, along with a rear-drive chassis, a manual or automatic transmission, and an independent suspension. The 3.7-liter V-6 in the Coupe churns out 330 horsepower with an enthusiastic growl all the way to its 7,500-rpm redline. The Convertible makes 5 hp less due to exhaust tuning, and while the Coupe accelerates to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds, the Convertible can take a half-second longer, due to the extra 450 pounds of folding hardtop it carries. The choices in transmissions are a slick six-speed manual with a clutch that has a high uptake point, or a marvelous seven-speed automatic that gets paddle shifters and a sport driving mode with the optional Sport package. It’s a delight to flip around through the gears in most driving modes with the automatic and a relief for most urban drivers. The G37 steers nicely and has a well-damped ride, even with the Sport package’s 19-inch wheels, but the heftier Convertible feels slightly less nimble and not as quick to accelerate. Directing all this high technology is rack-and-pinion steering gear with electric, as opposed to hydraulic, assist. The feel of the steering isn’t ideal, as it sometimes varies steering effort unexpectedly, but roadholding is fantastic. The ride quality can get a bit nervous in the Coupe, especially in versions with the optional 19-inch wheels. At the corners are massive disc brakes that stop with impressive power. The Convertible’s 17/25 mpg (automatic) or 16/24 mpg (manual) is bested by the Coupe’s 17/25 mpg (manual) or 18/26 mpg (automatic) fuel economy.Inside, the front passengers nestled inside the G37 Convertible will find much to admire. The base seats are fine; sport seats have adjustable supports and cosset snugly. While the G37’s front seats are cozy, the rear seats are nearly useless. Both the G37 Convertible and Coupe lack rear legroom, and there’s scant headroom, particularly in the Convertible when its top is raised. The Coupe sets aside 7.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which actually is larger at 10.3 cubic feet with the roof raised-considerably less with the top lowered, though the backseats are better used as luggage space anyway. Two passengers will appreciate the tightly constructed cabins and the wealth of expensive-feeling trim, as well as the engaging noises filtering into the cabin from the V-6.Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the G37 Coupe or Convertible. Both have standard dual front airbags; side seat-mounted airbags; curtain airbags (roof-mounted in coupes, door-mounted in convertibles); stability and traction control; and active headrests. The G37 Convertible also is fitted with twin pop-up roll bars for more rollover safety. Adaptive cruise control and "preview braking," which uses sensors to predict an impact and applies some brake force to limit impact speeds, are options.Infiniti ladles on the standard equipment for its luxury coupe and convertible. Coupes are built with automatic climate control, an intelligent key, and leather upholstery. Higher trim grades get upgraded audio; a dual-zone climate system; intelligent cruise control; adaptive front lighting; a hard-drive-based navigation system; and four-wheel active steering. All-wheel drive is an option. All 2010 G37 Convertibles come with leather seating; the power hardtop; a door-mounted button to lower the roof before entering or after exiting; an MP3-capable sound system; a rearview camera; a navigation system with hard-drive music storage and XM Satellite Radio with real-time traffic data; and an iPod connection kit that’s quick to index your favorite music. Options include a multispeaker Bose audio system that tunes its output to the car’s top-down status; a climate control system that does the same; heated and cooled seats; and Sport and Premium packages, which toss in 19-inch wheels, Bluetooth, radar-based cruise control, and adaptive headlights. Infiniti’s navigation and sound system is a favorite at TheCarConnection.com; the nav offers 3D "flyover" views, while the Bose sound system allows easy access to music and playlists without too much wheel-and-button fuss-and that’s increasingly rare in imported luxury cars.
