Chevy, Chevrolet In Latin America

Chevy cars are not just one of America's favorite cars but it is a favorite around the world. It is represented on nearly every continent. It is particularly popular in Latin America and in Europe. Chevy cars also have a unique history in these areas of the world which will be told through this article.

The General Motors cars that were sent to Latin America were slightly changed versions of the older models that were released to the North American and European nations. Nevertheless, since these countries have improved economically they are receiving newer models without changes and also due to globalization and outsourcing, these cars are more available in the respective countries, especially in Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile Argentina and Brazil. Below is a list of Chevy dealers in Latin America and the cars available in those respective countries.

Argentina opened its Chevy factory in 1995 in Rosario. Chevy cars were produced in the sixties but that was terminated once the inflation in 1978 because too much for the Argentine population. In the Rosario factory there are Chevy Opels, the Chevy S10 and the Chevy Blazer which are currently being produced.

Chevy has a very strong presence in Brazil. The most popular Chevy car in Brazil is the Chevy Opala which was modified from the Opel Rekord model from the late 60s. The production of this car was ceased many years later in the 90s. Other Chevy cars that have presence in Brazil are the Opel Kadett, the Opel Omega, which replaced the Chevy Opala in the 90s, and the Ascona. Brazil also has some of the luxury Chevy cars which include the Corsa "B" and has its own Brazilian Chevy, the Chevy Vectra.

Chevy cars have been in production in Chile for over 40 years. In Huechuraba in Santiago of Chile the Isuzu F and N series are in production and in Arica the Isuzu D-Max as LUV D-Max are assembled. Ecuador has an amazing run with Chevy as it has produced cars for them for 80 years. Venezuela also has a long relationship with Chevy cars as it started a production company in 1948. A fun fact for Chevy car production in Venezuela is that in the first 50 years of Chevy car production, 1,500,000 Chevy cars have been produced in Venezuela.

Chevy has also been a very popular car for the Southern neighbor of the United States, Mexico. Mexico has sold the Opel series of Chevy cars along with the US models. Due to their proximity to the United States and to Latin America, Mexico has been able to have a taste of both types of Chevy car releases; those for Latin America and those for the United States. The Mexicans also have their own version of the Vectra just like the Brazilians. It also has its own car models including the Chevy C2 which was based off of the Corsa, the Sonora which is a modification of the Tahoe and the Cheyenne which is a close relative to the Chevy Silverado.
