Lucy and Mabel, two of the Blue Peter dogs, were rescued by the AA yesterday after their handler’s car broke down on the way to filming.
Basingstoke, Hampshire (PRWEB) October 7, 2009 -- Lucy and Mabel, two of the Blue Peter dogs, were rescued by the AA yesterday after their handler’s car broke down on the way to filming.
A passer-by lent the handler her mobile phone and AA patrol Brian Thompson was quickly on the scene to sniff out the problem, which turned out to be clutch failure, requiring recovery to a garage.
Brian didn’t paws for thought and started "dogifying" his breakdown cover van - removing tools and equipment from the back and using carpet mats to create a comfortable home for his famous canine customers - stars of the long-running BBC children’s TV programme.
Although Lucy, a golden retriever, and Mabel, a blue merle border collie, acted cool throughout, the handler decided that it was enough drama for the day, so Brian took them home to west London after leaving the car at the garage for repairs.
Brian says: "I saw the dogs in the back of the car and made a fuss of them, as we have three dogs of our own. They were very well behaved and the member told me they’re the Blue Peter dogs.
"I was quite surprised but my kids now think I’m very cool and they really liked the postcards of the dogs that the handler gave me."
Lucy and Mabel are both well and to ensure they get to the studio over the coming days, the AA has arranged a complimentary hire car for the handler.
