| Description |
| The desirable BMW 3 Series Compact is in its second generation and just as popular as the saloon. The quality and design is of a high class but the most notable difference is the rear-drive hatchback layout which most drivers enjoy. |

The first generation BMW 3 Series Compact design was always looked at as a last minute thought where the boot / trunk looked like it had simply been cut off. This set it aside from other 3 Series derivatives.
Views have changed this time around, it is pleasing to the eye with a new sports hatch.
The handling on the 3 Series is now excellent and fn to drive with a good combination of rear wheel drive, chassis and engine specifications.
The 3 Series Compact is an expensive new car to buy in its class and extra features send the cost soaring. The cheapest choice is the 316ti, it's a good choice if extreme acceleration is not what you desire. Other wise the 325ti does 0-60mph in 7 seconds.
Performance on the 316 is decent with the 1.8-litre Valvetronic engine, it produces 115 break horse power and is great for the fuel conscience buyer with 40mpg. The power across the rev range is flexible and smooth making it a pleasure to drive.
The interior is well thought out, the driving position is good and there is plenty of room for passengers with long legs in the back. On a downside the headroom for in the rear is a little low.
Other cars in the 3 Series class have far better equipment and the high price for the climate control on basic versions is a bit of a deterrent. |
