2009 Acura TSX Car Review

Description
2009 Acura TSX

When the Acura TSX first hit the market it became apparent that the European Honda Accord was the base model for the TSX except for a few cosmetic changes to the interior and the front grille. Acura didn''t have any high expectations for sales but word of mouth soon got around and the TSX sold over twice as many units than expected, exceeding 30,000 sales. The TSX was then graced with being a top 10 best car from 2004-2006.
Road Test
The new 2009 Acura TSX has been created with the old version in mind due to its previous success. The TSX is still the same old European Honda Accord underneath with slight changes to the body style and a completely new interior with more than two cubic feet front and rear, despite this extra space the trunk has been slightly reduced in size. The wheelbase has been extended along with the overall length of the TSX. Acura mentioned that the TSX now has a "wide stance" due to the increased width of the vehicle.

The TSX was a hit due to the engine and the transmission, Acura have steered clear of making to many changes to an already popular setup. There is a six-speed manual and an optional five-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Regardless of the transmission choice they are accompanied by a 2.4-liter inline-four. Torque has been improved to 172 via a higher compression ratio but the break horsepower has dropped to 201 from 205. Rising fuel cost are a concern all around and the TSX is unfortunately up a couple of mpg on both transmissions.

Acura have introduced their signature multifunctional gadgets to the TSX that has become standard in all of the current Acura range. The visibility is now much better when using the central control system as it has been placed higher this is due to the increased complexity of the climate controls and entertainment features. The additional switches and knobs on the central control system are also available on the steering wheel which control the Bluetooth wireless connectivity, iPod-ready USB input and dual-zone HVAC system. Included in the Technology package is a navigation system with live weather and traffic information, also to top things off a superb ELS Surround stereo with no less than ten speakers has been added.

Acura have stuck with the highly popular deep front seats in the TSX that can also be found in the Acura MDX and Acura RDX models, these comfortable seats also have lots of lateral support. A blue glow has also been applied to the gauges to give it a cool feel. The only negative comment is the imitation leather style texture used on the dashboard.

There is a stiffer mount for the steering rack and a quickened ratio. A larger motor for the electronic power assist has also been added.

The Acura TSX is low on torque but still suffers from the odd torque steer and numb feedback through corners, the old TSX steering was better than the current but the suspension front and back has been improved.

The TSX is not as much fun as it used to be to drive but it is a definite improvement in the looks department.
