2001 Alfa Romeo 145 Car Review

Overall Rating 3 Stars
Description
The 2001 Alfa Romeo 145 stands out amongst others for its great handling ability and compliant ride.

The Alfa Romeo 145 is a three door hatchback that was an unusual style for its 1994 release and proved to be a hit with Alfa Lovers. While many other vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf have opted for a rounder bubbly look the 145 is a much sharper angular look and drives much better than the Volkswagen.

The Alfa Romeo 145 is available in a wide choice of four-cylinder engines with an economical 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and powerful 2.0 litre engine. Originally the traditional boxer type was the only choice then the more powerful Twin Spark was introduced. Engine refinement has been the major change for the new 145.

Road Test
The chassis is very well balanced and has excellent handling on winding roads with lots of feeling on the steering wheel, if the throttle is lifted mid corner the back end will likely come in to play as well.

The exterior bodywork is galvanised so future rust issues should not be a problem.

The trims most commonly available for the Alfa Romeo 145 are the Cloverleaf or TS however wear and tear is likely with the materials used and the cars have been criticised for build quality by many.

The seating is spacious and the driving position is good for people with shorter legs. Seats in the rear can accommodate average size people with good legroom and the access is easier than expected being a two door design. However there is more room in the 5 door Alfa Romeo 146 if preferred. All seats offer good comfort and support. There is plenty of room for luggage in the 145.

There is a surprisingly large amount of standard equipment including Power steering, central locking, electric front windows, drivers side airbags and an engine immobiliser.

All in all the 145 is good fun to drive and is well priced.
