Rover Metro - 1.1S - Rover Metro 1.1 s in British Racing Green
Fabulous little car in excellent condition throughout. This is a high spec model with sports interior including rev counter and sports seats. It has the S trim to the exterior which also makes it look special, whilst retaining its low insurance and tax group. There is a sunroof and remote central locking. As you can see from the photos the red seat belts make it look really cool. These cars are becoming very rare now. The 1.1 OHC engine pulls very well and the gears change very sweetly. It has the 5 speed gearbox which makes the car very economical.
This is the most desirable metro as it has the new 1.1 OHC engine rather than the old mini engine as in the early metros. It is also one of the last metros to be made before they changed them and called them Rover 100s.
The exterior of the car is in very good condition generally with straight panels and good shiny paint. There are a couple of rust spots in keeping with the cars age, most notably on the front wings although these are minor and only surface rust and would be fixed easily. There is a tiny spot of rust on the bonnet too. However in general the car looks much better than its age.
Inside the car it really is a pleasure to both sit in and drive. The dash board is in superb condition with no marks. The seats and carpets are very clean with no damage at all. The car really would pass for one half its age.
Mechanically the Metro is excellent starting always with no fuss at all. Everything works and the car sounds sweet as a nut. It loses no oil or water. The tyres are all excellent condition. Whilst the engine only produces 60 BHP this is ample for such a small, light car. It is not going to win any drag races but it keeps up with traffic and drives beautifully. The economy is superb, averaging about 42mpg in general use and slightly more on a run. The car has MOT until the end of April and I see no reason at all why it will need anything significant for the next one. The underneath of the car is very solid. At the last MOT, the car was welded around the seat belt anchorages by the MOT station to a professional standard so that should last for years. The brakes and suspension, and all other MOT areas all seem fine.
The car is cheap to insure and tax and would make an ideal first car or little run around, which is what we have used it for. As these are becoming rare it is much more fun than a newer small car, especially in the limited edition model.
