Jaguar E-Type MK2 2.4 saloon - Jaguar MK2, 1962, 2.4 Litre 12 months MOT 96k miles, 4 speed with overdrive, finished in Westminster blue with dark blue Connelly leather interior, Comes with a complete tool box (Selling for around £400 on EBay), genuine Jaguar workshop manual, fitted with stainless steel exhaust, all tires have done less than 2000 miles. The registration plate (ABC 123 type) is transferable and valued at between £1200 and £1500, if transferred; I believe the DVLA will give you a non transferable age related plate. This will be similar to the original.
This car has been dry stored for many years and is now available for sale. Prior to its MOT on the 9th of August 2008, all plugs and leads were replaced, all radiator hoses were replaced, a new back light and front number plate have been fitted, many of the brake pipes and brake seals were replaced.
The engine is in good order, clean and tidy, starts first time and idles smoothly. The bodywork is largely in good order but not perfect, some paint blemishes. Below is a breakdown of many of the individual aspects of the car.
The brakes have had many new pipes fitted prior to the MOT and have been rebuild with new seals. They are now working well and the hand brake is also very good which is unusual for this model!
The gearbox is in good order and changes smoothly with a little TLC. The overdrive works well and helps keep fuel consumption low. 1st gear is non syncro and so wines a little. The clutch has been adjusted recently and works well. It still has significant adjustment left and so will last for many thousand miles.
The suspension was rebuilt with new bushes and ball joints prior to it going into storage and this can be demonstrated through receipts.
Cooling system, all new pipes fitted, no leaks and the engine temperature is held at normal when driving. Antifreeze was added following the recent hose replacement.
Charging system is working well and maintaining a charged battery. The battery is old, but works fine, probably need replacing in the next couple of years and the brackets that hold it down are missing.
Electrics, the car passed a recent MOT and the garage owner was aware that the car was about to be sold and so did not allow any faults to remain before it was passed off. Suffice to say, all the lights work, as do the windscreen wipers and washer and horn. It may be worth noting that the windscreen wiper is only one speed not two.
The interior is not perfect but not bad given the age of the car, it would benefit from new carpets. The seats are clean and un ripped and have been re-connelised some time ago. The interior woodwork is largely in good order with no major faults. The instrument panel is all functioning fine, but the rev counter and Speedo needles tend to bounce around a bit when you are driving along. This is a very roomy car very comfortable to drive and very civilized. The picnic tables in the rear are especially popular.
The bodywork. The car has been dry stored and not been out in the rain for the last 20 years, with the exception of one wedding I did in the late eighties, (they were divorced soon after, not sure if that was down to my driving or the weather) when it rained quite hard. For the MT a small amount of welding had to be done underneath, I was told that this was a result of some earlier welding that failed as apposed to any rot. The car was re-sprayed with essentially a bare metal re-spray in 1990. This work was done to a high standard but is now starting to show its age, there is some crazing on the roof and the boot and the rest of the paint is not as bright as it could be. The chrome work is in good order for its age, but it is not as new. The car is fitted with the more desirable wide bumpers with disk brake emblems. The wheels have chrome covers with jaguar logos in the centre as is standard. I am not aware of any major rust on the car, but acknowledge that it would benefit from some exterior tidying.
The boot contains an original Jaguar tool box with a Dunlop puncture kit unopened and all other tools in place with the exception of the tommy bar for the box spanner. These tool boxes sell for £400 on EBay when complete.
When I drove the car from cold after the MOT, it drove well when it warmed up but I feel that the carburetors could do with a tune, you have to be a bit sensitive on the throttle to get smooth acceleration.
The history
I bought this car in around 1989 and restored it to a good practical standard. I then used it for showing and did around ten weddings before retiring her to back of my garage to make way for an XJS. The car comes with a large file of receipts, original document wallet, service map and handbook. The MK has not really been out on the road since around 1996, although I did one wedding in 2004 for a family member. In 2005 and moved house and found myself with out a garage, the MK2 was then put into dry storage until now when I have decided it is time some one had some pleasure out of her.
While this car is not in perfect condition, it is in a useable practical condition but would benefit from some TLC. It qualifies for free road tax and is very cheap to insure. It is advertised else where so I reserve the right to with draw at any time.
